The name of this blog happened after I noticed a splotch on my glasses. We all see through blemished lens from time to time, don’t we? A disjointed swirl.

Our Thoughts
The Blemished Lens 
Do the smudges distort the ugliness of the world? Distract us from the truths we don’t want to see? Or, do they shelter us from what we aren’t ready to handle?

If I squint, I can’t make out the ugliness.
The truth can break our hearts.

Ah, magic. A word that captivates my imagination, and therefore my heart.
I’m suddenly reminded of a Simpsons episode where Homer decides to pose for a nude portrait as a gift for Marge. The photographer tells him to undress, then winces, and then slabs a bunch of grease on the lens to distort the image… I forget exactly what she called it, but… magically distorted is close enough.

I remember that episode, actually. Close to turning the lights out so the other person doesn’t see your cottage cheese thighs.

You know what’s wonderful about glasses? Sometime, with the right angle, you can see a glimpse of yourself in the corner of the lens. You may see the tip of your ear or the flat surface of your face. I find seeing myself like that, different and intriguing.
